Thank you for agreeing to participate in a Technical Sponsors Group as part of the campus-wide review process for converging on a common collaboration and learning environment for UCLA.

In Spring 2003, the Faculty Committee on Educational Technology began the process of reviewing options for providing UCLA faculty and students with a common system that would support teaching and research collaboration. In Spring 2004, UCLA became part of a national initiative focused on precisely this same vision, the Sakai initiative and began a pilot project in fall 2004 to evaluate Sakai as a possible tool for broad deployment at UCLA.

In Spring 2005, the FCET recommended to the ITPB that the campus should converge on a common collaboration and learning environment. Building on the work of the last four years, your charge is to present to the FCET by June 1, 2006, a joint recommendation with the Functional Sponsors Group for a common collaboration and learning environment for UCLA. Your report should include a summary of the information on which your recommendation is based, for example, the technical criteria you used, the solutions you considered, and other issues relevant to your decision.
